Editorial Reviews:

Including 12 New Poems!

If you are a dreamer, come in,
If you are a dreamer,
A wisher, a liar,
A hope-er, a pray-er,
A magic bean buyer . . .

Come in . . . for where the sidewalk ends, Shel Silverstein's world begins. You'll meet a boy who turns into a TV set, and a girl who eats a whale. The Unicorn and the Bloath live there, and so does Sarah Cynthia Sylvia Stout who will not take the garbage out. It is a place where you wash your shadow and plant diamond gardens, a place where shoes fly, sisters are auctioned off, and crocodiles go to the dentist.

Shel Silverstein's masterful collection of poems and drawings is at once outrageously funny and profound.

Summary: Wacky book
Comment: My son and I think that the stories in this book are wacky but very funny. We have the CD that we play in the car

Summary: Great book
Comment: This is a great book for both young and old! This was a childhood favorite of both my daughters. When I saw the 30th Anniversary Edition, I had to purchase two for my now-adult daughters for Christmas. I can't wait to see their faces when they open them because of their nostalgia for this book particularly, as well as other Shel Silverstein books. He could certainly write in a style that was appealing to children and adults!

Summary: Heart and humor
Comment: A completely magical collection! The imagination and wit of Shel Silverstein never ceases to amaze me as he does anything to make kids laugh (and, to my eternal gratitude) educate them.

Make no mistake, the man is too intelligent to be just silly. There is intelligence to each and every poem, even if it is ust the word structure.

As a teacher, I best appreciate this due to the different ages it reaches. I found myself reading my class one poem only to end if half way do to semi-mature content (come on, it's first grade, they can't hear everything).

Shel Silverstein is the Man.
