Capture NX 2 from Nikon is a powerful image-editing application that lets photographers work with digital photographs with more speed and efficiency than other software programs. Its underlying technology gives photographers the ability to make selective corrections to an image with just one click. "Real World Capture NX 2," written by digital photography expert Ben Long, takes photographers behind the scenes to see how this innovative program works. Along the way, Ben offers valuable tips and techniques for getting the most out of the software and digital cameras.
Novice and expert photographers alike will benefit from Capture NX 2. New users can make advanced image corrections without learning sophisticated masking techniques. Advanced users can perform the complex edits they are accustomed to making in other programs in fewer steps. Any image corrections made with Capture NX 2 are non-destructive, which means that the actual image data is unaltered and reversible until the photographer achieves the best results. Photographers who use Nikon cameras have access to special software features for working with raw, JPEG and TIFF images.

Customer Rating: Summary: Excellent Book Comment: AS it turn out I didn't purchase the software I already have the first generation so I just stayed with that. But for sure the book did help be better understand my current software well written and easy to follow. Maybe Nikon should give this man a job with there Camera manuals.
Customer Rating: Summary: Needs Improvement DVD would be very helpful Comment: Has several errors in it. A dvd that you could work thru would make this a better value. Overpriced for what you get. Really is not geared to mac user. Does not explain using with aperture or iphoto very well. Into photoshop users. Really not for anyone but a very advanced photographer into photo editing with photoshop. Not Recommended.
Customer Rating: Summary: Very informative tutorial Comment: I purchased the Capture NX 2 package along with this book, and I'm glad I did. This book walks you through an information filled workflow for making your pictures the best they can be. I've always struggled with Histrograms, and this is the best explanation I've run into so far. Highly recommend getting this if you're a relative amateur in digital photography and want to really make your pictures "pop!"
Customer Rating: Summary: Good way to start learning Comment: This book will introduce you the features and capabilities of a powerful software program. It will allow you to start using the program and improve your images. The book will not overload you with technical details and is an easy read. A second step will be to use some other products to find more details and in-depth explanations of why you would want to use individual steps. Some parts of the books seem to be out of order in the learning process, but overall, this book buys you a comfort level (beyond the software manual) to use the software.
Customer Rating: Summary: One of the best "HowTo" books I have ever read Comment: I was really struggling to learn how to use NX2 so I ordered this book. What a pleasure to find something so well written, informative, and useful.
The author has a real knack for logically laying out what you need to learn and building up your skill set. And he seems to know when you'll need a little extra help. Every time I start wondering ....well now how...?...he has a Tip, or an explanatory paragraph, or simply says "we'll do more on that later".
His writing style is simple, friendly, easy to understand, non technical. When he does have to explain something that is somewhat technical he uses terms we civilians can understand, not technical photogeek jargon.
There are a lot of useful pictures and illustrations which really helps.
Highly recommended.
