Editorial Reviews:

The ruthless and brilliant brother Vishous possesses a destructive curse and a frightening ability to see the future. As a member of the Brotherhood, he has no interest in love or emotion, only the battle with the Lessening Society. But when a mortal injury puts him in the care of a human surgeon, Dr. Jane Whitcomb compels him to reveal his inner pain and taste true pleasure for the first time-until a destiny he didn't choose takes him into a future that does not include her...

Summary: Jumping the shark
Comment: I'm new to vampire/paranormal romance (thanks to Twilight and Lara Adrian's series) and I believe that JR Ward set the standard with her Black Dagger Brotherhood series. To say I've loved them is an understatement, but by Lover Unbound I've been shaking my head. What happened? The great storylines (esp. Zhadist) are wonderful, but with V it just unraveled. What? Was there a deadline from the editor? Or has she become so untouchable/valuable that the editor cannot give her criticism? Anyway, the story is OK, but it really jumped the shark with the ghost storyline (and the Mom storyline wasn't much better). I know others have said that it was the only logical way that Jane and V could be together for eternity, please - I have to believe that JR Ward has a better imagination than that - just look at the great world she has created!

Also, not to get too picky - but there is a word that was overused to the point of irritating in Lover Unbound and I (so) wanted to groan every time I saw it. So please, Ms. Ward, for our sanity please stop using the word "so" so liberally because I, for one, am so over it!

Needless to say, I am not rushing to read Phury's story and won't be waiting for book 7 in April. Thank goodness, Lara Adrian's next book is out soon!

Summary: Bizarre But Enjoyable
Comment: There is so much in the content of this book that steps far beyond what we have come to expect from the series. This is a good thing, because it keeps the series from stagnating.

The Plot:

Vishous is a warrior of the Black Dagger Brotherhood. Wounded on the field, he ends up in a human hospital where he is treated by trauma surgeon Jane. Jane finds herself pulled into V's world and falling in love with him.

What Makes It So Good:

As expected, it's seriously kinky and hot. In the midst of this though, it's surprisingly romantic. Vishous is portrayed as an alpha male at times, but he also has a softer side.Jane is an awesomely strong, smart character. The chemistry between them is dynamic.

The plot flows well, and it's relevant to the series. We continue to learn more about the world of the vampires, and their spiritual world as well.

Summary: Well worth your time
Comment: Let me just say that this is a book written about adults for adults. The entire series has been wonderful, and Lover Unbound did not disappoint. Each story of the "brothers" follows their own personal journey and some of them could be extreemly disturbing to some people, but I found them to be captivating and very fitting considering they ARE vampires!!!!!! The way J.R. Ward writes it felt to me from the get go that anything is possible, so if you are able to get your head around things that would seem perhaps impossible, the stories are so enjoyable. And wow the love and "bonding" these males give their females...WOW is all I can really say. IMHO, a wonderful read, cover to cover

Summary: Forget the naysayers. This book was great!
Comment: I was hesitant to read Lover Unbound for fear that it was not up to the quality that the earlier books in the series were. I read through many of the reviews on Amazon and started out prepared to totally dislike the writing. I LOVED this book. I loved Vishous and Jane's story and in fact, Jane has replaced Bella as my favorite Shellan.

Without getting into the specifics. JR Ward took the series in a new direction. Getting deeper into characters that will move the series forward and drilling down more into the BDB so that the plots do not become repetitive. Many reader reviews were a bit creeped out by the bonding/S&M take on the character of Vishous but by the middle end of the book I realized it was a perfect plot device that lent the book a great layer. By the end of the book I felt as if V (& Jane & Butch) has transcended to another plane in their relationship and that hard core sex element faded into a footnote for me. It was also nice to take a Lesser break as for me that is one element to her writing that is an annoyance (when they crop up in the midst of a story line or a particularly hot scene).

Did I miss elements from earlier in the series? Heck yeah! I sort of like knowing that in spite of being vampires, they mack out to Fiddy & Luda and I would have liked to have seen more appearances of Mary, Beth and the rest of the characters. But I think that entering into V's world was a consuming journey and by the end of the book one is left COMPLETELY satisfied.

As for the unusual HEA for Jane and V. Yeah its out of the ordinary but isn't that why we read these books. For being given the chance to suspend our realities of just a bit of time is the promise of these books and Ms. Ward delivers beautifully in that area.

I look forward to John (and hopefully) Xhex's story, Payne & (I pray Rehvenge's) story, Quhinn, Blay & Dr. Manello & quite possible the continued storyline for Jane where she gets to retake a corporeal form. I hear that Ms. Ward plans to move away from paranormal romance into the realm of Urban Fantasy. I don't quite know what the difference is but I hope that she maintains the quality and does not move into a genre simply for titillation and sales sake.

Summary: Very emotional
Comment: I gave this book 5 stars because I couldn't put the book down. J. R Ward did her job in not wanting me to put the book down. I cried a lot in this book. It was very emotional for me. I think I just wanted V to have the happy ending that the others have had. Phury is making me sad as well giving all he has given to his twin and now for one of his brothers V. It was a bit of a roller coaster for me. V opened up a lot in this book. He lets out all of hislittle secrets. His feeling for Butch. How he feels about his mother and father. Everyone knew how bad Z had it as a bloodslave, but if you think about it so did V. He had a really bad time of it and most of it came from his own father. Really bad stuff. For me the book was a great book, not my fav in the series. I can't pick between 1st and 3rd. I love them all don't want the story to end. I agree with the ending was different, but I still enjoyed the book.
