Editorial Reviews:

Blessed—or cursed—with the ability to change into a sleek panther, and driven by a dark soul he’s accepted as his fate, Adrik Wilder abandons his family and his honor to pursue a life of wickedness. He excels at every vice, including kidnapping Karen Sonnet to use for his selfish purposes.

But Karen’s spirit and passion make him question the force of his family’s curse. And when a new evil emerges, Adrik must choose whether to enact revenge on his enemies and redeem his soul, or save Karen from a fate worse than death…

Summary: Didn't Like This One
Comment: I liked the first two books in the series but I had a hard time getting through this one. I did not like the violence or how Karen was treated. I'm probably more sensitive to this since I was abused in a marriage. I had to skim through some of the parts, like when he tied Karen to the bed AND held a knife to her throat. I agree with one reviewer who said you could call it unwilling surrender but it really wasn't. Karen did NOT say "yes". She said "no". There is no excuse for treatment like that. Warlord had been coming to her tent at night previous to him abducting her, so he could have been patient. I just don't have patience for treatment like this and I don't find it stimulating at all. I know I'm in the minority here, but any woman who has gone through something like this in real life understands. I get surprised with women who can casually condone aggression or mistreatment.

Summary: Loved this book - and I don't think it was Rape...
Comment: ****SPOILERS****
I thought this was by far the best of the series. Yea, sure, Rick started off uber-Alpha - but he did love Karen, saw her as his salvation, and while he did sort of kidnap her at first, she was begging for the pleasure he could give her. She was a strong woman who hated being dependent on anyone for anything - including sex - and had a hard time accepting the part of herself that wanted Rick and wanted to stay with him. It was her pride that made her try and leave. If she really could not stand him and wanted away, she would have not fought - she would have curled up in a weeping, catatonic ball - instead she fought with him, against him, and proved over and over she was truly a match for him. Great read!

Summary: A thrill Ride
Comment: Into the Shadow is a fast paced thrill ride between the dark, Adrik Wiler (Warlord)and Karen Sonnet. The two were fated to be together, despite Karen's cool demeanor. As the two class and struggle against their attraction, evil lurks ever so close. Karen has to chose between helping the man she loves or face his untimely death. Her love will be tested as she reaches in the shadows of her own lonely soul and pulls Warlord back into the light of her heart. Tamera Lawrence, author of 'The Pond'

Summary: A-, Well-Written & Not Cheesey
Comment: This is on the cusp of a B+/A-, so I bumped it up. It's not a perfectly written book, but for $8, it was good money paid to feel entertained. I've gotten jipped at the movies for more.

I think I grabbed this book while I was waiting in line for my prescription at Walgreens.

I didn't realize until after I had gotten home that it was a shape-shifting book. And then I was like, "Ugh. It's gonna be lame." Boy was I wrong! I am glad I didn't notice the panther watermark in the cover of the book when I first grabbed it. It's one of those covers that well plays with light. Like a holographic lenticular or something.

Anyhow, all the shapeshifting books that I have accidentally read were terrible. Cheesey, lame, goofy. This was far from it. It was good.

You like both characters, although our heroine could have been written slightly better. Just a little more depth would have been nice. There was some inner monologue, but it would have been nice to see more of that so you could see inside her head even further. You knew what drove her, what excited her, what disappointed her...but it would have been nicer if there was just more of it, you know? The same goes for our hero. I like the fact that he is damaged and she saves him & vice versa (which is pretty much a given in any book that is a romance, but this one at least had a different twist).

I'm not doing a full-length synopsis as most people have already done that. I like commenting on what I liked and didn't like.

Plot - loved it.
Fight Scenes - Good.
Psychoanalyzing the characters - Interesting.
Depth of Characters - More inner monologue, please. What I read was interesting. Would have loved more.

I liked this book enough that I am buying the other 3 in the series. Can't wait.

Summary: Keeps getting better and better
Comment: Most sequels usually are not as good as the first book, not so with INTO THE SHADOW. With each consecutive book, it just keeps getting better and better.

I LOVED the characters of Arik and Karen. Arik was extremely sexy and Karen was his perfect partner, even though she didn't know it at the time. The book, in parts, had me in tears, weeping for both hero and heroine. Out of the books thus far, this one is even steamer than its predecessors.

Dodd keeps the story going and doesn't miss a beat. Fast paced and entralling it keeps you intrigued until the very last page. In fact this one took me by surprise at the end of the book. I won't give anything away, only to say I'm eager to read the last novel in the series.
