Editorial Reviews:

Anna Del Maso had known that she wanted to be a chef since she was in the seventh grade. "Somehow everything in my life ends up being about food," she realizes, as she begins the latest of her food-themed quilts. Her twin passions have converged in a brand-new position as head chef for Elm Creek Quilts, Waterford, Pennsylvania's popular quilting retreat.

As she joins the circle of quilters at historic Elm Creek Manor, Anna is eager to preserve the manor's culinary heritage, dating to 1858, while also celebrating the new favorites of their many guests. Yet as Master Quilter Sylvia Bergstrom Compson well knows, the manor's kitchen, last updated in the 1940s, can't create food that compares to the state-of-the-art quilting instruction for which Elm Creek Quilts is renowned.

A full renovation of the kitchen must be completed by the start of the new camp season. Though the task is daunting, Anna is assured in her belief that "A kitchen is the heart of a home." As she and Sylvia begin to dismantle the old to make way for the new, Sylvia's reminiscences remind them both of just how many of the manor's traditions have involved food and celebrations. Whether the feast is one of the holiday menus prepared and enjoyed by generations of Bergstroms, or one of the Welcome Banquets and Farewell Breakfasts that have become hallmarks of Elm Creek Quilt Camp, there is a story for every recipe, and a recipe for every story.

The Quilter's Kitchen follows Anna's flavorful explorations of the kitchens of Elm Creek Manor, past and present. As she records beloved recipes and creates original dishes seasoned with love, she discovers anew how the gifts of the table gather friends and family ever closer.

Summary: can't believe anyone gave it more than one star
Comment: I LOVED the first 8 or so Elm Creek Quilt series books - 5 stars. The remaining ones are obviously published on a schedule - avg 3 stars. A little light on content or repetitive. This last book was barely 2 chapters worth of content. It didn't really tell us anything about the character or how she would/would not be included in the group. It didn't have any type of conclusion. Awful. Not even worth the gas to go to the library.

Summary: Not worth your time
Comment: I have read all of the Elm Creek books and have thoroughly enjoyed them. This book was a big disappointment. Pages & pages of recipes interspersed with a few pages of dialogue -- this was not worth my time, and certainly wasn't worth the money. I hope Jennifer waits to publish her next book until she actually has something worthy of publication.

Summary: Wait for the library's copy
Comment: Like others, I ordered this book hot off the press and tucked it in my carryon for a long plane ride. Needless to say, this book barely carried me for 1.5 hours, nevermind the 3+ hours of the flight. No matter how slowly or carefully I read the words, there simply was not enough content to spend any great amount of time on. I'm sure the recipes might work for some, but for me and my family, they are a bit out of our taste range.

For the $$ I would recommend waiting for your library's copy; spend your money on new fabric.

Summary: "She dropped a few stitches here..."
Comment: What a disappointment! I fear that this publication was little more than an excuse to get some long time tried and true readers and fans of the series to purchase a cookbook and little else without the "book" being publicized as such. With little more than a thread of a story to hold a series of recipes together, this was a waste of my time. I'm hoping that Chiaverini will get back on track, pick up the lost threads of her storytelling, and get on with the business of writing fiction - this is what the true fans of her series are awaiting.

Summary: The Quilters Kitchen
Comment: I Love this series, however, I was very dissappointed in this book. The story line is great, but I wish those recipes (of which there seems to more pages of than story) should have been put in a different area ~ not in the middle of the story. I love cookbooks and collect them, but I wasn't interested in a cookbook when I purchased this book. I wanted to find out more about Anna and the remodel. The story should have been longer. I read this book in only 2 hours. I'm disappointed. But....I'll continue to read each book as it comes out, because I LOVE this story line! Next time ~ warn us that it's not just a novel.
