Editorial Reviews:

America had won the Revolution, but our troubles were far from over. The thirteen states were squabbling, the country could not pay its bills, and in Massachusetts farmers had taken up arms against the government. Was our country, which had fought so hard for its independence, going to survive? In May 1787 delegates from across the country -- including George Washington, James Madison, and Benjamin Franklin -- gathered in Philadelphia and, meeting over the course of a sweltering summer, created a new framework for governing: the Constitution of the United States. Their efforts turned a shaky alliance of states into a nation that would prosper and grow powerful, drawing its strength for centuries to come from "We the people" and inspiring hope for freedom around the world.

Summary: Great Book
Comment: I got this book to help get my grandson interested in our country and it's history since it doesn't seem like the school is doing much in that area. The illustrations are wonderful, it is easy to read. He is 7 yrs old and it was a little above his reading level but it was good for us to read it together. I recommend it highly.

Summary: Great History Lesson
Comment: This book was great. It's a good history lesson for kids and adults on the creation of our Constitution.

Summary: Excellent book for children...
Comment: We the People, is another great book from Lynne Cheney. I've read it to our 8 and 6 yr old boys a couple of times...they loved the illustrations. Our 6 yr old sort of lost interest by the end, but then again he's 6! LOL! I'd say its good for children age 7 & up.

Summary: Well written
Comment: Although written for an elementary level, the story of the constitution by Mrs. Cheney was interesting and well written for all ages. A good picture of the struggles and authenticity of the writers of the constitution. Recommended for any age reader.

Summary: Our thoughts
Comment: While we basically enjoyed the book, there is one serious omission that would make the book better - there should be a copy of the Constitution in the book. A copy of the Constitution would tie it all together.
