Customer Rating: Summary: Cold Hearted Comment: Beverly Barton has done it again. This is a book you won't want to put down! As in all her books her characters are interesting and when at the end of the book will be wanting more. It is a who done it that keeps you guessing. A good read!
Customer Rating: Summary: Disappointing and not believable enough Comment: I was looking for a good suspense book and never having heard of this author before, I thought I'd give it a try. I am pretty dissapointed and the only reason I read it in it's entirety was because I didnt want to waste my money.
The author seems to be fond of the words and phrases: gaze, their gazes collided/clashed, she closed her eyes, damn/damned, hesitated. she sighed, all right (and isn't the correct terminology in the context "alright"?) I kept seeing them at about just about every other page and it was annoying and gave the book the feel that it was written by an amateur.
I wanted to like the main characters but I couldn't. They have no depth to them, they seemed flat, there wasn't anything to make you feel like you really knew them. Like one of the reviewers said, I couldn't understand why Jordan was so loved. She bored me and there was nothing intriguing about her. Same with Rick. How could he in one thought think that he didn't like her but before you know it, you're reading that he wanted to take her in his arms. Mind you, this was only after knowing her for two or three days.
Well, at least I know not to buy her books again.
Customer Rating: Summary: She's done better Comment: I have read all of Beverly Barton's books and although I am not so much disliking this book as much as I have liked all her others, maybe it was a little too long and dragged a bit. BUT>>>>>>>I did not guess who was doing the killing until practically the last page. Will I buy her next book? Of course I will, she is very talented and I always eagerly await her novels.
Customer Rating: Summary: NOT UP TO THE AUTHOR'S USUAL GOOD STANDARDS Comment: I was really disappointed with this book. After Ms. Barton's last few books, this one was a real stinker. I found the two main characters, Jordan and Rick, to be very shallow and unlikable. There was hardly any background on Rick's character and I thought Jordan was a cold fish. I don't see why everyone loved her so much. One minute she was taking care of everyone and soothing their fears, the next moment, she would think how she wished everyone would just leave her alone. It seemed to me that Jordan had a split personality--the loving caretaker, the cold hearted witch. I was convinced throughout most of the book that Jordan really was the murderer, that she had a split personality. I wished I had been right, because I think it would have made the book more interesting. When the real murderer is exposed, it was a disappointment. The `romance' between Jordan and Rick was tepid at best. During most of the book Rick thinks Jordan is a Black Widow, and then all of a sudden he's in love with her--not very convincing. I also thought the author spent way too much time rehashing the suspect list, Rick's suspicions of Jordan, and all the previous murders. I am generally a big fan of Ms. Barton, but this book missed the mark. It seemed to have been written by someone else or maybe she was being rushed by her publisher to crank out a new book. I'm glad I got the book from the library instead of plunking down my hard earned money on this stinker of a book.
Customer Rating: Summary: Not Great! Comment: All I can say is that considering her previous books this one seemed like it was written by someone else or by an amateur author...not up to her standards at all. I recommend you skip this book and pick out any of her previous ones which are really good.
