Customer Rating: Summary: "He's Hard to Please!" Comment: I bought this magazine for my hiking husband. He had the dream to hike most of the Appalchian Trail before age 70. This magazine went to work in his brief case, and was quickly missed when our daughter picked it up to read in her room. He had an interest in most of the articles. It was well worth the purchase price.
Customer Rating: Summary: Bacckpacker Magazine Comment: I just got my first issue. So far, so good! Lots of good advice, lots of interesting stories, and locations to go.
Customer Rating: Summary: Backpacker magazine Comment: I've just renewed my subscription, and a friends also, for Backpacker magazine for the...I don't know how many-ith time. To me Backpacker is the quintessential magazine for any backpacker. It informs and entertains anyone from the first time hiker to the person that's hiked all their life. From the food recipes to the first aid techniques to the annual gear guide, to the incredible photography and informative articles, no publication does it like Backpacker. I'm sold.
Customer Rating: Summary: To commercial Comment: There is a lot of good information in here, but take everything with a grain of salt. They are driven by their advertisers, and strangely enough many of their reviews sound more like an ad for the product instead of a review. So try to read between the lines, and try the equipment yourself before you buy it. Overall a good mag.
Customer Rating: Summary: Downhill Comment: Like other reviewers have said, the content has gone downhill from informative articles on gear and places to go, to garbage that has nothing to do with backpacking. They sell out to gear companies, endorse shady gear companies ie: Big Sky, and the writing style almost requires you to have a.d.d. to read it ( tons of very short blurbs and "tips" thrown all over ).
To top it off, they have been sending me threatening letters to pay for issues they sent me after my subsription ended and I didn't renew it.
