Summary: Synapse Services (The company that handles your subscription) SUCKS!
Comment: Amazon, apparently, contracts out these subscription services to Synapse, Inc. I ordered Mix and Recording Magazine for my husband for XMAS on DEC.5th. We have never received EITHER magazine. When I called to inquire, I was told that it it would be 4 BUSINESS DAYS before I would be contacted by a customer service representative who could help me with my problem.
I do not recommend anyone subscribe to any magazine through Amazon that is handled by Synapse,Inc. The only reason I gave them 1 star is because I the rating system would not allow me to give them ZERO.

Summary: Outstanding Magazine Better Than The Competition
Comment: I hear everyone say that Mix is a better magazine than Recording and I say nonsense. This mag is a great mag about home recording and the recording industry. After the first issue of Recording Magazine, I cancelled my subscription to Mix. I like the reviews in Recording much better, but what I like the most are the seperate columns each month about each band instrument. Each month a column is written pertaining to bass, guitar, drums, and vocals. These columns give the readers tips and insight on how to improve and get different sounds out of each instrument. I love it.

Summary: Friendlier end of the scale...
Comment: It can be kind of fluffy and thin, with maybe one or two really good meaty articles (usually too short) per issue, with a bit too much fluff in between, too many press releases (jeez I hate press releases that pass for "news"). For that, 3 stars.Nevertheless, it has a friendly, engaging, and easy-to-read approach that isn't as podunk as Home Recording, but sadly not as cool as EQ, and certainly not as seriously professional as Mix ($$$). It'd be a great subscription for a teenager or new musician just getting into songwriting and/or recording, but who doesn't necessarily aspire to be an engineer.
Which I guess is the whole idea. For that, 4 stars.
