Archaeology magazine is a bi-monthly magazine offering information on current digs as well as almost any topic of archaeology one can imagine. I have been reading the magazine for the last 40 years since college days. My line of study was anthropology, having earned enough credit hours to dig, however, my only touch down through time with dirt level archaeology has been through this magazine and one on biblical archaeology.
The magazine has changed greatly since coming upon it at the university library long ago, for one thing it is full of color these days where back then it was mostly black and white, the overall size of the magazine is much smaller with few pages, and as I recall back then, since it is an outreach publication of the Archaeological Institute of America, the magazine then offered articles of much deeper scope.
Today's publication is very colorful and slanted more for the interested layman, so anyone having a passing interest in archaeology should find something of enjoyment here. Though I think the overall focus of the magazine has, pardon the expression, 'dumbed down' abit since the 1960s, offering more popular archaeology, it is still one of the best offering interesting and informative articles to the general public.
And though recently an article appeared on Blackbeard's flagship the Queen Anne's Revenge, I still have a small criticism in that today's magazine generally displays a lack of coverage in marine/underwater archaeology. The magazine stays more to the popular side of things, for example, the current issue offers info on Indiana Jones's latest quest, no doubt to cash in on the new movie to be released. Last issue had the famous unfinished bust of Nefertiti on the cover, "Nefertiti's Secret", but the several paged article dealt more with the 'distinctive shape' of the queen's eyes and their possible affect on Egyptian burial art.
I do re-subscribe, so don't think I'm knocking this fine publication, only stating that the magazine oft times offers less than substantive articles of archaeology. But there are no other magazines around at this price offering as much information of current, popular archaeology.

Summary: Great read for the Indiana Jones-type
Comment: I've loved this magazine for years. One could say that it's become more "glossy" over time--more for the general reader than a specialist. Which is perfect. No one will mistake it for a trade publication, but the fact is it gives fantastic, broad coverage to the entire world, including fascinating articles I would never have heard about because they are outside my main area of study. The amount of info on a story is perfect, and each article makes it easy to track down further info when you want it. Highly recommended.

Summary: Archaeology Magazine
Comment: This magazine is a favorite of my dad. He specifically requested a subscription for Christmas. It is a very suitable magazine for the traveler and history buff in your life.
I had difficulty ordering from the third-party service for subscriptions at the magazine's website, and the customer service phone number was not working. I switched to Amazon, and had the transaction done in minutes.
I generally use Amazon for all my magazine subscriptions, but I was surprised that they had this one---I figured it was a little too weird for them to offer, yet here it is.
I do recommend the product for those who love the stories of history. I've read through a few issues at Dad's and they are well-written, full-color, and informative. It is a quality gift!

Comment: If you are not a professional archaeologist, but interested in archeology, this is the magazine for you. It covers all areas of archeology and is written in an interesting, but technically comprehensible manner. I look forward to each issue.

Comment: ARCHAEOLOGY Magazine, a publication of the Archaeological Institute of America, is a well rounded, interesting and exciting magazine, rich in content, photography, as well as the option to order back issues that cover any area or interest you have that was previously published.
I love the objective perspective written, and find the content to be thorough. If you are interested in archeology, I give this particular magazine my highest recommendation.
